Speaker Revd. Dr. Alastair Logan taught for many years in the Theology Department at Exeter University, and is the author of The Gnostics: Identifying an Early Christian Cult (2006). In this lecture, he takes us on the search to identify this early Christian cult.

Transforming Lives for Good – with Initiatives in Christian Education

Unlimited Church, Mary Arches Street
ICE has recently partnered with TLG (Transforming Lives for Good), a national church based charity working with vulnerable children all across the UK, to run a mentoring program in Exeter. TLG work with children struggling in school and at risk of being excluded, by assigning them a mentor who will work with them and help them through this time. They are looking for anyone 18 or over who loves Jesus and has a spare hour a week to come and spend time with a child at risk of exclusion and see their life transformed. You can attend a launch event on 6th January at Unlimited Church at 7pm to find out more about the project. Trip specifically designed for church leaders who might consider leading such a trip themselves in the future, designed to give a full overview of what is possible on such a journey. Includes all the normal content of a Holy Land pilgrimage, with time to visit the major biblical sites of the Old and New Testaments, to follow the earthly life and ministry of Jesus and to pause for reflection, prayer and worship. In this time of housing crisis, new housing developments are springing up across Devon. Whole new communities are emerging sometimes with little in the way of community facilities, often with little capacity to nurture friendships amongst the new residents, usually against a backdrop of local protest, and almost always without a church building. Our challenge as Christians is to work out our response to this changing landscape. The New Housing Hub is committed to encouraging Christians to be a prophetic voice of welcome, amidst the sea of protest, and to work together in order to share God’s love with every new housing area.

1. Prayer for the country: St Petrock’s on the High Street (opposite McDonald’s) is hosting a prayer space for anyone who wants to spend some time praying for our country. There are three prayer stations, around the themes of unity, peace and hope. The next time you’re in the city centre, join in praying for our country – for unity, peace and hope. Open daily during working hours, except when in use for meetings. The prayer space has been created by Ross Maynard, the community minister from South Street Baptist Church – a good example of churches working together.
2. Sanctuary Pledge: Exeter City of Sanctuary spoke to CTaX Council recently, about their work helping make Exeter a welcoming city. 3. Refugee Support Devon 400 Appeal: RSD spoke to CTaX Council recently about their 400 appeal – a campaign to recruit 400 people to make a monthly donation of £10 by direct debit, to enable RSD to continue providing essential services to refugees and asylum seekers.
