Who we are

A unique feature of church life in England, paralleled nowhere else in the world, has been the development of a network of Intermediate Bodies – mostly corresponding to counties or large cities – where the Churches have developed a pattern of co-operation and shared life which also gives oversight to local ecumenism in its different forms. Their task is not only to care for LEPs but perhaps more importantly, to support and encourage local unity.

Devon is resourced by a County Ecumenical Officer, who is employed part time (16 hours per week) to act on behalf of Churches Together in Devon,  to facilitate communication and to offer advice and support to Local Ecumenical Projects and local Churches/Christians Together Groups. The intermediate body or Enabling Group, meets 4 times per year, usually in January/February, May, September and November. They organise reviews of LEPs as well as have involvement in The Devon County Show and arrange visits of encouragement to towns and areas where churches are seeking to work together.
