Youth Genesis has been providing online services and support for young people during the crisis – we’ve provided a daily messaging service for young people along with digital youth spaces in place of community based youth clubs and drop-ins. In Torbay, we have been providing a daily ‘Parent Access’ service for parents/carers struggling with teenagers during lock down.
As well as the daily support and online youth spaces, we’ve also been sending out ‘Empower Packs’ which have given young people activities, confectionery, and information about how to access local services for further help.
Issues that we have supported young people with include conflict at home, mental health (such as anxiety, low mood, depression, self-harm), domestic abuse, bereavement, family finances, digital exclusion, and isolation. We have also supported parents who have had children runaway during the lock down.
Youth Genesis has been grateful to the URC South Western Synod and the Plymouth & Exeter Methodist District for their support.
