This email follows sooner than usual after my last. There are a few dates and updates to share which are pressing.
Last Thursday we gathered for the CTT AGM where a wide range of encouragements were shared. The minutes are attached.
Please note in particular:
- Torquay Community Larder: Things are still drying out at The Salvation Army after the recent burst pipe. Please could you hold donations (including Harvest gifts) for just a little longer until the premises are once again fit to receive them.
- Rev Heather Cadoux: All are welcome at Heather’s induction service which will take place at Furrough Cross URC this Saturday 26th at 3pm. A warm invitation is extended to any who might be able to join the church in gladly welcoming Heather and her husband Roy.
- ToWNS 2020: Training will take place on Tuesday 12th November at The Salvation Army in Torquay (6.30-9.30pm) and on Saturday 23rd November at Christchurch, Paignton (10am-1pm). Volunteers should please attend one of the sessions. There is still a pressing need for somebody to take up the role of second coordinator to help oversee the project in Torquay. Could this be you? (Please don’t be modest.)
- Mission: The J John Mission which had been considered for 2020 is not going ahead. (The AGM minutes explain a little more – item 11). But a mission is booked for September 2021 with Through Faith Missions (TFM) and a training day will take place at St Matthias on Saturday 15th February 2020 (see attached for more details).

The Salvation Army Christmas Hampers and Presents Appeal
The Salvation Army has plans to make Christmas more special for those in need. Attached are some details, but until the premises have dried out and things have returned to normal please collect and keep your gifts at home. Watch this space to find out when to begin to bring your gifts in to Market Street.
I had the most animated conversation with a passer-by at the Ageing Well Festival last Saturday – “I can’t accept that God is a man. A woman wouldn’t do it that way. How dare the Bible say that!”. Paul’s declaration to the Christians in Galatia came to mind, and so I shared it – in God’s family there is “neither native nor foreigner, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female”. We parted on very good terms. Please pray that seeds scattered might bear fruit.
For your encouragement (especially those of us who are of an age where we already hope that we are “ageing well”) I also attach some relevant Bible verses which we handed out at the Festival. May God bless you as you read them.
Do you have an event coming up that you would like others to know about? Please let us know and we’ll do our best to include it.
We aim to enable good communication and partnership between Christians in Torquay!
Lee, Secretary for CTT
