Christians Together in Torquay – January News

Dear friends,
It was good to unite in worship last Sunday evening as part of this year’s week of prayer for Christian unity. More than 120 of us gathered at the Church of the Assumption in Abbey Road, drawn from across the denominations, united in praise and prayer. This year’s theme was “unusual kindness”, with Paul’s shipwreck as our Bible passage, and we were encouraged by Rev Angela Sumner to reflect on God’s goodness, to recall kindnesses we’ve known and to consider how we might show unusual kindness to others.  Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5.22-23). Simple kindness can be a priceless commodity for the recipient, and it can cost next to nothing for the giver. “Be ye kind” (Eph 4.32).

We have an opportunity to be kind as The Winter Night Shelter (ToWNS) continues. The shelter is currently operating in Paignton, and has been much needed as the nights have been very cold lately. The shelter will move to Torquay from 7th February onwards. There is a particular need for volunteers to help with registration, which happens early each evening at The Salvation Army in Market Street. Please see the attached letter and prayerfully consider whether you can help.
Please also pray for the 7 Torquay churches whose premises will host the shelter, that there will be a good team at each place, that volunteers’ will be kept safe and in good health, and that guests at the shelter will know the touch of God’s loving-kindness.
